Differentiating Hepatic Encephalopathy from other Diseases
Disorders that can mimic or mask symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy include:
- Alcohol intoxication
- Complicated alcohol withdrawal
- Meningitis
- Metabolic abnormalities such as low blood glucose
- Sedative overdose
- Subdural hematoma (bleeding under the skull)
- Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
