Screening

There are certain features which if present in a patient complaining of diarrhea for over 4 weeks require further evaluation. these include:

• Rectal bleeding
• Weight loss
• Age > 50 years
• Pain
• Associated psychological factors
• Somatization
• Dietary causes of diarrhea
