Overview

Other diagnostic studies include injection of calcium gluconate into splanchnic arteries and venous sampling searching for insulin.

Other Diagnostic Studies

  • In the case of failed imaging investigations to diagnose insulinoma, calcium gluconate injection test is done.
  • The test can be performed to distinguish between insulinoma and islet-cell hypertrophy.
  • Injection of calcium gluconate into splanchnic arteries and venous sampling searching for insulin.[1]
  • In insulinoma, the test is positive in one artery alone.
  • Islet-cell hypertrophy, the test is positive is positive in multiple arteries.[2]
