  • Euthyroid sick syndrome can be caused by any serious illness which predisposes to:
    • Increased level of cytokines
    • Decreased level of leptin
    • Hyper-metabolism
    • Iodine containing contrast medium
    • Decreased protein synthesis
    • Decreased level of thyroid-binding globulin
