Overview
In 1886, Fränkel gave the first description of pheochromocytoma. In 1912, Ludwig Pick coined the term 'pheochromocytoma'. In 1926, Isidor Papo, performed the first surgical removal of pheochromocytoma in the Military Medical Academy in Yugoslavia.
Historical Perspective
- In 1563, Eustachius discovered and described the adrenal gland. He divided it into cortex and medulla.
- In 1886, Paul Mannase and Frankel described the chromaffin reaction and medullary adrenal tumor respectively.
