Abdominal radiographs demonstrate multiple air–fluid levels throughout the abdomen. Serial radiographs usually do not show progressive distention as they do in mechanical obstruction On a barium meal, patients of ileus demonstrate slow movement of barium with a patent intestinal lumen.
