X Ray
Abdominal radiographs demonstrate multiple air–fluid levels throughout the abdomen. Serial radiographs usually do not show progressive distention as they do in mechanical obstruction On a barium meal, (small bowel series) patient of ileus demonstrate slow movement of barium with a patent intestinal lumen.
- Patients undergoing serial X rays have shown that resolution of ileus proceed from proximal to distally.
- return of propulsive activity to the right colon occurs earlier than to the transverse or left colon.[1]
- Dilatation of large and small bowel dilatation
- Elevated diaphragm
