Overview

The hepatocellular adenoma usually have normal liver function tests and normal serum tumor markers, but may be raised secondary to necrosis or hemorrhage and alkaline phosphatase may be raised in hepatocellular adenomatosis.

Hepatocellular adenoma laboratory tests

  • The hepatocellular adenoma usually have normal liver function tests and no elevation in serum tumor markers, such as alpha fetoprotein.[1][2][3]
  • The liver function tests may be found abnormal secondary to necrosis or hemorrhage and alkaline phosphatase is raised in patients with hepatocellular adenomatosis (presence of 10 or more hepatocellular adenomas).[4][5]
  • The alpha fetoprotein may be raised if patient develops hepatocellualr carcinoma.[6]
