History and Symptoms

History

• The history of coronavirus infection includes exposure to the infected animals or humans.
• Patients report flu like symptoms in the initial stages.
• Infected people can also report upper respiratory symptoms.
• The most important part of taking history is establishing patient exposure to the source of the infection.

Common Symptoms

Common symptoms of coronavirus infection include:

• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath

Less Common Symptoms

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Headache
• Feeling of discomfort
• Body aches

Incubation Period

• The incubation period varies depending on the infection.
• The incubation periods for coronavirus infections are given below:

SARS-CoV

• The symptoms (cough) of SARS-CoV infection start to appear after 2 - 7 days.
• The incubation period ranges from 12 to 18 days.

MERS-CoV

• The symptoms of MERS start to appear approximately 5 or 6 days after exposure to the source of infection.
• The incubation period can range from 2 - 14 days.

2019-nCoV

• The incubation period for 2019-nCoV is set according to the observed data and the incubation periods of the previous coronavirus infections.
• It can range from 2 to 14 days.
