Surgery
- Prior to the 1980s, nephrectomy was the standard treatment for pyonephrosis.
- Presently, interventional procedures are required to drain the pus in pyonephrosis.
- Drainage of the pus can be done through either retrograde catheterization (placing a catheter in the ureter) or antegrade nephrostomy tube placement.
