Bladder diverticulum

Overview
- Bladder diverticula may be congenital or acquired. Most acquired bladder diverticula are associated with longstanding bladder outlet obstruction and most commonly seen in older men with benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostatitis], or prostate cancer. Congenital bladder diverticula are uncommon and occur almost exclusively in boys. Congenital diverticula occur most commonly immediately adjacent to the ureteric orifice: so-called Hutch diverticula. These diverticula most often result in vesicoureteric reflux.
