Overview
Symptoms of acute giardiasis include watery diarrhea, steatorrhea, bloating,abdominal pain, indigestion, flatulence, and vomiting. Symptoms of chronic giardiasis include anorexia, weight loss, malaise, and failure to thrive. Less common symptoms of giardiasis include low-grade, intermittent fever, symptoms of allergic reaction, and neurologic symptoms (neurasthenia, sleep disorder, depression).

Symptoms of acute giardiasis include the following:
Common Symptoms
- Watery diarrhea
- Bloating
- Abdominal pain
- Indigestion
- Flatulence
- Malodorous, greasy stools that float and are difficult to flush (steatorrhea)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache
- Anorexia (chronic infection)
- Weight loss (chronic infection)
- Malaise (chronic infection)
- Failure to thrive (chronic infection)
Less Common Symptoms
- Intermittent fever
- Symptoms of allergic reaction (rash, eye swelling)
- Sleep disorder
- Depression
- Neurasthenia
