Causes
Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD)
There are several anatomo-physiologic abnormalities that may contribute to GERD [1]
- Hypersecretion of gastric acid.
- Decreased concentration of epidermal growth factor in salivary secretions.
- Diminished esophageal pain sensitivity.
- Poor contraction of the esophagus.
- Decreased tone of the lower esophageal sphincter.
