Overview

Primary Prevention

  • There is no vaccine available against non-polio enteroviruses, including enterovirus 68. Since many people infected with this virus are asymptomatic, it is difficult to prevent enterovirus 68 from spreading.
  • CDC recommends preventive measures to avoid transmission, such as:
  • Hand washing with soap and water especially after using the toilet and changing diapers
  • Avoiding close contact, such as touching and shaking hands with people who are sick
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.
