Overview

A maculopapular rash (little spots or bumpy bumps) is a flat red rash which includes macules and papules by definition. The rash may include pimples or spots similar to those caused by measles.

A macule is a flat discoloured area. A papule is a small raised lump. A maculopapular rash is a flat, red area on the skin that is covered with small confluent bumps.

This type of rash is common in patients experiencing Scarlet fever.

This type of rash can be as a result of large doses of niacin or no flush niacin,(2000 - 2500 mg.) sometimes used for the management of low HDL cholesterol.
