The clinical presentation of ependymoma is dependent on tumor location.

History and Symptoms

Infratentorial (posterior fossa) ependymoma

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Drowsiness (after several hours of the above symptoms)
  • Irritability
  • Ataxia
  • Neck pain
  • Cranial nerve palsies

Supratentorial ependymoma

Spinal cord ependymoma

  • Back pain
  • Lower extremity weakness
  • Bowel and bladder dysfunction.
