Overview

Renal osteodystrophy is usually diagnosed after treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) begins. Blood tests usually show the following:

• Decreased calcium level
• Elevated phosphate level
• Decreased calcitriol (vitamin D) level
• Elevated PTH

History and symptoms

• Silent (no symptoms)
• Bone pain
• pain

• Bone deformation
• Bone fractures
