Overview
Primary Prevention
Identifying high risk groups for trauma and disk herniation and educating them about adequate safety and preventive measures such as
- Teaching proper lifting techniques of heavy machinery
- Preplacement strength testing and physical examination as a screening method
- Reducing the physical demands of work through the systemic work design at the workplace.
- The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) developed a lifting equation which was revised in 1991 in an attempt to determine recommended weight limits for workers
