Overview

Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare cancer that tends to affect children and young adults.

Epidemiology and Demographics

Incidence

• The incidence of adrenocortical carcinoma is believed to be 0.72 per million cases per year leading to 0.2% of all cancer deaths in the United States (4).and 0.2 to 0.3 per million children per year worldwide (5) but valid data are lacking (3).

Age

• A bimodal distribution was observed, the first one in pediatrics and the second one in the fifth to sixth decade. (9) (13, 14, 12, 15–17)

Gender

• There is a predilection for the female gender (the ratio of female to male ranges from (1.5–2.5:1, 10, 17)
