Overview

Tropheryma whipplei causes Whipple's disease. It is a gram-positive bacillus that is transmitted orally. It is a systemic disease that infects primarily intestines and every other organ.

Causes

• Whipple's disease is caused by an infection with Tropheryma whipplei.
• Tropheryma whipplei is a periodic acid-Schiff stain positive, gram-positive bacillus of Actinomycetes family.
• It is transmitted through oro-oral and feco-oral routes.
