Overview
Allergic colitis is most commonly caused by allergy to cow's milk protein. 20-40% of patients with allergic colitis have allergies to both cow's milk protein and soy protein.[1]
Causes
The most common cause of allergic colitis is cow's milk protein allergy, which accounts for 50% to 65% of reports. Cow's milk protein and soy protein together account for about 75% of the causes.[2][3] Other causes include:
- Egg
- Peanut
- Cereals such as corn, rice, oat, barley
- Others include meats, fish, shellfish
