Overview

Breast mammogram may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. On breast mammogram, fibroadenoma is characterized by a well circumscribed, discrete, oval mass that is isodense to breast glandular tissue. The mass may contain coarse, popcorn calcification.[1]

Other Imaging Findings

Mammogram

  • Breast mammogram may be helpful in the diagnosis of fibroadenoma.
  • On mammogram, fibroadenoma is characterized by:[2]
  • Homogenous and well circumscribed nodules with smooth round edges
  • Isodence or hypodense compared to normal breast glandular tissue
  • Partially obscured margins or macro lobulation
  • Inner coarse calcifications are often observed (mostly in postmenopausal patients)
  • It is not recommended for use in women <30 years because of the density of the breast tissue in this population.[3][1]
