Overview

In severe cases, cases not responsive to either endoscopic or medical treatment or recurrent cases, surgery may be necessary to arrest the bleeding.

Surgery

Segmental resection of the intestine may be needed after localising the site accurately. Subtotal resection can be performed if the bleeding site cannot be localised with certainty. If however, the lesions are widespread, such treatment becomes impractical.
