Parodontosis is characterized by absence of inflammatory changes of gums, gums’ and paradontal apertures. The run of parodontosis is slow. The transfer from one form to another happens during decades.

Dystrophic changes in the tissue of parodentium usually develop as local manifestations of systematic (rarely local) dystrophy. Depending on the continuance and character of the changes in paradontosis, it is distinguished as mild, average and severe disease.
