Overview
The true incidence of Acoustic neuromas has been difficult to estimate.[1] [2] The incidence has been reported to range from 1 to 20 per million per year.[3] [4] [5] A study of acoustic neuromas in a review of 24,000 brain MRIs reported a prevalence of 0.07%. When comparing the clinical incidence of acoustic neuromas to the prevalence of occult acoustic neuromas ascertained from histopathological studies of temporal bones, it can be concluded that the vast majority of tumors that exist are never clinically manifested.[6] [7]
