Cafer Zorkun received his M.D. degree from Istanbul Medical Faculty. After his residency and practice at regional hospitals of K. Maras province, he served as a director of a private medical practice in Ankara, and as a vice director of a nationwide private medical rescue organization in Turkey.

He received his PhD degree from Jagiellonian University Medical College and completed his clinical cardiology training at the Institute of Cardiology at the John Paul II Hospital in Krakow, Poland. Beyond his medical practice at the Department of Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Zorkun served as an instructor in medicine at Jagiellonian University Medical College and as a consultant on medical education and research programs at the John Paul II Hospital in Krakow.

From November 2007 to July 2009, he worked as a research fellow in cardıology at TIMI Study Group & Perfuse Angiographic Core Laboratory at Brigham & Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School.

He is a fellow of the American Heart Association, and a member of the International Society of Electrocardiology, European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions, Polish Cardiac Society, Polish Medical Association, Turkish Society of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology. His clinical research is mainly focused on catheter-based revascularization of ischemic heart diseases and management of acute coronary syndromes.
