Laboratory Findings

• In the acute stage:
  • Peripheral blood smears shows anisomacrocytosis with many bacilli adherent to red blood cells.
  • Thrombocytopenia is also seen and can be very severe.
• In the chronic stage:
  • Silver stain (the Warthin–Starry method) of skin nodules
