Screening
Overview
Endoscopic screening for Barrett's esophagus may be warranted on an individual basis for patients who have multiple risk factors (older than 50 years, male sex, white race, chronic GERD, hiatal hernia, elevated body mass index, and intra-abdominal distribution of body fat). There is inadequate evidence of benefit recommending screening in the general population of patients with GERD who do not have risk factors. [1]
