Autoimmune disorders
A history of other autoimmune diseases like adrenal insufficiency,pernicious anemia increases risk of hyperthyroidism.
Age
Hyperthyroidism can happen at any age, but it is more common in people aged 60 and older.Graves diseases is more common between ages 40-60 years.
Gender
Hyperthyroidism is more common in women than men.
Genetic Factors
A family history of Graves disease or other forms of hyperthyroidism increases the risk of hyperthyroidism.
Race
Japanese appear to be at greater risk of hyperthyroidism.
Others
Other Factors like common viral infection and Pregnancy may also increase the risk of hyperthyroidism.
