Prepared using a Gomori staining technique, and under a relatively low magnification of 50X, this photomicrograph reveals histopathologic changes indicative of the presence of the dematiaceous fungal organism, Phialophora parasitica. Known to be a causative agent for chromoblastomycosis and phaeohyphomycosis, which affect the subcutaneous tissues, however, in the case of phaeohyphomycosis, many organ systems may be affected, even becoming disseminated throughout the body.
