Overview
Primary prevention of bronchiectasis is aimed at preventing future development with the avoidance of harmful substances, vaccinations, maintenance of a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI), and the practice of physiologic strategies.
Bronchiectasis Primary Prevention
*Avoid toxic fumes, gases, smoke, and other harmful substances
- While smoking has not been found to be a direct cause of bronchiectasis, it can be an irritant that all patients should avoid[1]
- A healthy Body Mass Index, vaccination (especially against pneumonia and influenza), and regular doctor visits may have beneficial effects[2]
