1- Depending on hormones production:
- Functional, produce one or more of the followings hormones:
- Cortisol.
- Aldosterone.
- Testosterone.
- Estrogen.
- Nonfunctional
2- Depending on histology:
- Well differentiated
- Intermediate differentiated
- Poorly differentiated
- Anaplastic
3- Variants include:
- Oncocytic adrenal cortical carcinoma
- Myxoid adrenal cortical carcinoma
- Carcinosarcoma
- Adenosquamous adrenocortical carcinoma
- Clear cell adrenal cortical carcinoma
