Overview
Follicular thyroid cancer may be classified according to WHO classification into 2 subtypes: minimally invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma, and widely invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma.
Classification
WHO classification also divides FTC into minimally invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma (MI-FTC) when limited capsular and/or vascular invasion is found and widely invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma (WI-FTC) in the case of widespread infiltration of thyroid tissue and/or vascular invasion. It has also been classified as conventional type and oncocytic type according to histologic variety.
