Statement of Need

Only around 25% of practitioners have applied evidence-based guidelines within 7 years of their endorsement by international societies. Additionally, it can take up to 7 years for nationally endorsed evidence based guidelines to be applied in practice by 50% of the physicians in specialties related to the guidelines. By providing regularly updated medical information, WikiDoc provides healthcare professionals with access to an ongoing curriculum that provide the medical latest updates and nationally endorsed evidence-based medicine and guidelines.

Information technology is leveling the playing field among knowledge workers. Silos of knowledge are coming down, and professionals are now sharing information more freely. WikiDoc was created to freely share medical knowledge and to foster collaboration among healthcare providers. With the rise of sub-specialties in medicine, medical care often becomes segmented, and physicians work individually with little sharing of knowledge and expertise across specialties and professions. Use of the WikiDoc platform will allow healthcare professionals to collaborate and cooperate with other peers, to share valuable medical knowledge and expertise and improve practice and education.
