  • Middle aged patients
  • Majority are asymptomatic
  • May have hematuria , recurrent renal calculi, and recurrent UTI
  • Often unremarkable
  • RTA type 1
  • Hypercalciuria
  • Bilateral cystic dilatation of the collecting tubules on CT
  • Hyperdense papillae with clusters of medullary calcifications
  • "Paintbrush-like" appearance


  • Medullary cysts lined by cuboidal epithelium
  • Severe scarring and inflammation of the interstitium,
  • Not applicable

acquired cystic kidney disease  cystic renal dysplasia glomerulocystic kidney  mesothelial cysts nephronophthisis simple cysts
