  • Incidental finding , 50 yo male
  • Asymptomatic
  • May have hematuria and flank pain if ruptured
  • Often unremarkable
  • Variable shaped echoic mass on U/S
  • Thick irregular walls
  • Absent posterior acoustic enhancement
  • Vascularizations or septation present
  • Cyst surrounded by a single layer of flattened , cuboidal, or atrophic epithelium
  • Clear to straw-colored fluid









Nonmalignant causes

acquired cystic kidney disease  cystic renal dysplasia glomerulocystic kidney  mesothelial cysts nephronophthisis
