Overview
Cardiac myxoma is a rare disease, with a reported prevalence of 0.03% in general population.[1] The incidence cardiac myxoma is about 1/ 100,000 per year .[2] [3] The average age onset of this condition is between 30-60 years, were females are more commonly affected than males, rarely affect children.[4][1] The female-to-male ratio is approximately 1.8 to 1. Cardiac myxomas represent 78% of heart tumors.[5]

Prevalence
- The prevalence of cardiac myxoma is reported as 0.03% in general population
Incidence
- The incidence of benign cardiac tumor including Myxoma is about 1/100,000 per year
Age
- The mean age patients at diagnosis is 50 years, most patients are in 30-60 age range. However, in pediatric population is more likely to be related with familial or multiple distribution (Carney complex) were there is no established sex predisposition.
Gender
- Myxomas are more common in females with a female:male ratio of 1.8:1[1]
