Overview
Epidemiology
- Adenocarcinoma of the lung is now considered the most common histological subtypes of lung cancer.
- Nearly 40% of lung cancers in the US are adenocarcinoma.[1]
- Among people who have smoked fewer than 100 cigarettes in their lifetimes ("never-smokers")[2], adenocarcinoma is the most common form of lung cancer.[3]
- The incidence of adenocarcinoma of the lung has been increasing in many developed Western nations in the past few decades, where it has become the most common major type of lung cancer in smokers (replacing squamous cell carcinoma of the lung) and in lifelong nonsmokers.[4]
