Associated Conditions
Some of the conditions associated with primary sclerosing cholangitis include:[1]
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): approximately 70-80% of patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis have IBD (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis).[2]
- Autoimmune hepatitis: approximately 35% of children with primary sclerosing cholangitis have associated autoimmune hepatitis, while only 5% of adults have combined primary sclerosing cholangitis with associated autoimmune hepatitis.[3]
- Gallbladder disease: this includes gallbladder stones and cholecystitis, polyps and cancer.[4][5]
