Laboratory Findings

Laboratory investigation in the diagnosis of epiglottitis may include:

• Blood culture
• Throat culture in an intubated patient-- may show H. influenzae or other bacteria
• Complete blood count (CBC) with differential-- may show a high number of white blood cells
• Arterial blood gases
