Overview

Laboratory investigation in the diagnosis of epiglottitis may include the following nonspecific tests:^[1]^[2]

Blood culture
Throat culture (only in an intubated patient)^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6] may show H. influenzae or other bacteria
Complete blood count (CBC) with differential may be remarkable for a leukocytosis with neutrophilia
Arterial blood gases may show respiratory acidosis
