Antibiotics are the cornerstone of treatment for actinomycosis.
Indications
- Patients nonresponsive to medical therapy
- Disseminated actinomycosis
- Failure to exclude malignancy by imaging studies
- Large abscess that cannot be drained through percutaneous aspiration
Surgical options include
- Incision and drainage of abscesses
- Excision of sinus tracts and recalcitrant fibrotic lesions
- Decompression of closed-space infections
