Impetigo is often associated with insect bites, cuts, and other forms of trauma to the skin.

Risk Factors

Risk factors for impetigo include:

• Abrasions
• Trauma
• Basic skin pH
• Lack of sebaceous secretions
• Humidity
• Obesity
• Corticosteroid use
• Chemotherapy
• Dysglobulinemias
• Leukemia
• Chronic granulomatous disease
• Diabetes
• Malnutrition
• Congenital or acquired immunodeficiencies e.g. AIDS
