Overview
Head, abdomen and lung CT may be helpful in the diagnosis of schistosomiasis. Findings include nodular and ring-enhancing lesions with surrounding edema in neuro-schistosomiasis, calcified capsules in hepatosplenic schistosomiasis and interstitial fibrosis in pulmonary schistosomiasis.
CT scan
Head, abdomen and lung CT may be helpful in the diagnosis of schistosomiasis.[1]
- Head CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of neuro schistosomiasis. CT scan of the brain in CNS schistosomiasis may demonstrate nodular and ring-enhancing lesions with surrounding edema.[2]
- Abdominal CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of intestinal schistosomiasis. CT scan of the liver in hepatosplenic schistosomiasis may demonstrate calcified capsules.[3]
- Pulmonary CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of pulmonary schistosomiasis. CT scan of the lung in pulmonary schistosomiasis may demonstrate interstitial fibrosis.
