Overview

MRI of the affected bone is helpful in the diagnosis of chondroma. On MRI, enchondroma is characterized by well circumscribed, lobulated mass replacing the bone marrow. On MRI, periosteal chondroma is characterized by lobulated soft tissue lesion that is abutting the cortex. Periosteal chondroma may demonstrate evidence of pressure erosion on neighboring bone, with no evidence of medullary bone or soft tissue edema.

MRI

• MRI of the affected bone is helpful in the diagnosis of chondroma.
• On MRI, enchondroma is characterized by a well circumscribed, lobulated mass replacing the marrow.
• On MRI, periosteal chondroma is characterized by a lobulated soft tissue lesion that is abutting the cortex. Periosteal chondroma may demonstrate evidence of pressure erosion on neighboring bone, with no evidence of medullary bone or soft tissue edema.
