Overview
Blood tests, such as a complete blood count (CBC), blood chemistries, blood clotting tests, and liver function tests, are used to assess the condition of the patient.
BUN, creatinine, and electrolyte levels are measured to guide intravenous fluid therapy.
Laboratory Findings
Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of Mallory-Weiss syndrome include decreased complete blood count (CBC) due to bleeding, thrombocytopenia due to bleeding and alcohol use, and elevated Blood urea nitrogen (BUN). Coagulation parameters should be assessed.
