- Altitude sickness may be classified according to clinical symptoms and the pathological changes of principally encroached organs into 2 groups:
- Acute
- High altitude acute response (HAAR)
- High altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE)
- High altitude cerebral edema (HACE)
- High altitude children cardiopathy (HACC).

- High altitude chronic response (HACR)
