Overview
There are no diagnostic laboratory tests for TAK. Testing for acute phase reactants such as the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) may provide additional support for the presence of a systemic inflammatory process; however, normal values of ESR or CRP should not markedly deter making the diagnosis of TAK.
Laboratory Findings
Laboratory abnormalities in patients with TAK are nonspecific and generally reflect an inflammatory process.[1]
- Acute phase reactants such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) may be elevated.
- Normochromic normocytic anemia suggestive of the anemia of chronic disease
- Leukocytosis and/or thrombocytosis
