Primary Prevention
There is no established method for primary prevention of polycythemia vera.[1][2] Considerations for primary prevention include avoidance of radiation exposure and chemical exposure, as these exposures can predispose patients to the development of myeloproliferative neoplasms. Early interventions in general do not alter the course of this disease, since the disease is caused by a point mutation that results in clonal proliferation.
