Overview

CT scan is useful in detecting metastasis to organs and regional lymph nodes in merkel cell carcinoma

Key CT findings in Merkel cell cancer

• CT scan of the chest and abdomen may use to detect merkel cell carcinoma metastasis.
• CT scan of the abdomen may shows the following:
  • Retroperitoneal and peripancreatic adenopathy
  • Involvement of the lower left anterior chest wall
  • Involvement of the ribs
  • Involvement of the gut
• CT scan of the head and neck may be also used to find merkel cell carcinoma that has spread to regional lymph nodes.
• CT scan of the head may demonstrates a soft-tissue nodule in merkel cell carcinoma.
